How to transfer files from computer to computer

How can I transfer a large file over the Internet in different ways? Many users have encountered a similar problem because there is no problem transferring small files.

The main problem when transferring a large file is its size. In most cases, services and applications limit the file size to a specific value that cannot be exceeded.

A small file can be attached to an e-mail message, to poison the file through a message in the messenger. In these cases, there are restrictions on the size of the file. With small files, everything is clear, but how to transfer a large file?

When transferring files from 1 GB or more, difficulties arise due to the large file size. Attaching such a file to the message in the traditional way will not work, for its transfer you need a direct link and support for the service or application.

There are several easy ways to send a large file over the Internet, which I will mention in this article. There are a lot of ways to transfer large files, I will talk about the simplest and most convenient ways for the average user.

When sending large files, keep in mind that the following factors affect the speed of file transfer:

  • the larger the file, the longer it will take to transfer it
  • internet connection speed
  • load of remote servers at the time of file transfer, when using a third-party service

You can transfer large files over the Internet between computers using the following methods:

  • cloud storage
  • file sharing services
  • file sharing
  • using synchronization
  • file transfer via torrent

Traditional file sharing services (TurboBit, DepositFiles, etc.) are not suitable for file sharing between users due to the fact that when used for free on such services, the download speed is very limited. Therefore, for free, a large file will have to be downloaded from there for days.

Synchronization tools allow you to transfer a file to another computer directly, but, unfortunately, there are practically no free solutions.

Previously, it was possible to send large files via Skype, until they introduced restrictions.

Therefore, further we will consider examples of the use of cloud storage, services for exchanging files, transferring a file directly through a torrent. The article discusses solutions that work in Russian.

How to transfer a large file via Yandex Disk

To use the Yandex.Disk service, you must have Yandex mail. Using the Yandex service, you can transfer a large file in two ways: directly through Yandex Disk, or send a large file by attaching the file to an e-mail message.

When sending a file via e-mail, click on the “Attach files from Drive” icon, and then send a message to the recipient.

You can attach a file up to 10 GB in size to an e-mail message (provided that Yandex Disk is installed on your computer). The recipient can save a file larger than 2 GB on his Yandex.Disk, and a file up to 2 GB can be downloaded to a computer, or saved to Disk.

Please note that Yandex Disk allows you to upload files up to 10 GB in size (via the Yandex.Disk application, or via WebDAV), and when downloading via the web interface, the file size cannot exceed 2 GB.

The second way to transfer a large file via Yandex: copy the link to the file directly from Yandex Disk, and then send it to the recipient. The link can be sent to one person, several recipients, or put in public access.

Follow these steps:

  1. Highlight a file.
  2. In the upper right corner of the Yandex.Disk window, switch the "Share link" switch to the "Enable" position.
  3. Copy the link to the file to the clipboard.
  4. Send the link to the recipient.

The user can share the file on social networks by clicking on the appropriate buttons and using the QR code.

In the cloud storage, the file will be available for download constantly until it is deleted from the storage or public access to this link will be closed.

Similarly, you can use the services of another cloud storage, for example Google Drive, Cloud Mail.Ru, Dropbox, etc. Cloud storage has a different size, provided to the user, some of its features.

How to send a large file in Mega - cloud storage providing free 50 GB of disk space. A feature of this storage is the encryption of files placed in the "cloud". Files are encrypted on the user side.

Enter the Mega cloud storage, right-click on the file, select "Get Link" in the context menu.

In the "Export links and decryption keys" window that opens, select the option you want to send the link to the file, and then copy the link.

Mega uses the following options for exporting links:

  • Keyless link - a link to a file without a decryption key
  • Decryption key - the key to decrypt the link
  • Key Link - Decryption Key Link

Another user can easily download the file to his computer by receiving a link to the file with the decryption key. When transmitting a link without a key, the recipient will be able to download the file only after receiving the decryption key.

To transfer large files, it makes sense to use the MEGASync application. To the recipient of a large file, it is advisable to have a Mega account in order to download the file without problems due to restrictions. The file transfer process takes place in several stages:

  1. Creating a torrent file with the extension ".torrent".
  2. Create distribution.
  3. Transferring a torrent file or magnet link to the recipient in any convenient way.
  4. Download a large file on another computer.

Read here a detailed article about this method of sending large files to another computer.

Transferring files from computer to computer

There are a large number of methods for transferring data from one PC to another. This article will cover 3 categories. The first consists of methods using Internet services. The second group is based on the use of standard physical media (for example, portable hard drives). The last resort on our list will be Windows home networking technology.

Method 1: uTorrent

You can simply transfer data of any size using the popular torrent client uTorrent.

  1. Launch the app.
  2. Open the folder with the desired file in "Explorer" Windows
  3. Left-click on the desired object and, holding the button, drag it directly to the torrent client.

The link creation window will appear.

  • Push button "Get Link" (Create Link).
  • After a while, the distribution will be ready. A message appears stating that the operation completed successfully.

Right-click on our distribution and select "Copy Magnet-URI".

Now the magnet link will be on the clipboard, from where it can be pasted anywhere: in the message in the messenger, email, etc.

The person to whom you transferred the torrent address will have to do the following:

    1. In the running muTorrent application, select "File""Add by URL ..."

In the dialog that appears, enter the transferred URL (for example, by clicking "Ctrl" + "V").

  • Clicking on OK (or "Open"), start the download.
  • Method 2: Cloud Services

Today, there are many cloud services with simple use: Yandex Disk, MEGA, Google Drive, Dropbox, Cloud They all use the same principle in their work.

    Yandex Disk

The limit on the maximum file size for downloading via the web interface is 2 GB. But, using the application, you can send larger data. The amount of free available space does not exceed 10 GB.

    1. Follow the link above to Yandex Disk.
    2. Having entered the cloud service, click the mouse "Download".

In the standard window "Explorer" Windows select the desired file to boot.

After successfully adding data to the cloud service, a panel will appear where you need to click on the switch (move it to On) This will open public access to the file uploaded to the resource.

The resulting link can be copied to the clipboard (1), sent to social networks or via Email (2).

Another fairly convenient cloud service is Mega. In free mode, the user is provided with 15 GB of disk space.

    1. We go to the site at the specified link.
    2. At the very top of the panel, select "File Upload" (Upload file) or "Folder Upload" (Download Folder).

  • AT "Explorer" Windows indicate what you need to load, then click "OK".
  • After the operation is completed, a new item will be displayed in the list of available objects.

  • To create a link, position the mouse pointer at the very end of the line and click on the button that appears.
  • Select "Get link".

At the bottom of the warning message, click "I agree".

In the URL creation pane, click "Copy". Now it can be transferred in any way by pasting from the clipboard.

    Method 3: Email

Almost all email services allow you to transfer files along with the message. The disadvantage is that attachments attached to the letter cannot be large. Often the maximum allowable limit is 25 MB. Let us show on the example of Yandex Mail the procedure for sending attached data via Email.

By clicking on the link above in the Yandex mail service, click on "Write".

Enter all the recipient data and click on the paper clip icon.

  • A standard window will open. "Explorer".
  • Find the desired file and click "Open".
  • Push button "Send".

The recipient in the received letter will have to click on the down arrow to download the attachment. It should be noted that if the file size exceeds the permissible size, then in the message box the user will see a link to Yandex Disk.

    Method 4: TeamViewer

TeamViewer is a remote control tool used primarily to assist another user on his PC. The program has wide functionality, including convenient features for transferring documents from computer to computer.

  • Enter the partner ID (1).
  • Set the switch to File Transfer (2).
  • Click "Connect" (3).
  • In the next field, enter the partner password and click on "Login".

A two-pane window will appear in which on the left we select the data for copying, and on the right - the target directory (or vice versa).

    Method 5: Bluetooth

Using Bluetooth wireless technology, you can copy files from one PC to another. Many computers (including most modern laptops) already have a built-in Bluetooth adapter. Transferring data between machines in this way requires enabling the function itself on both sides.

On the second computer (target), click on the Bluetooth icon in the tray with the right mouse button.

  • Select item Open Options.
  • Put checkmarks in the section "Detection" and Connections.

On the first machine, click on the Bluetooth icon in the tray, then - Send file.

  • We indicate the desired device and what we want to transfer.
  • On the second PC, we perform the operation similar to step 4 by selecting "Accept file".
  • An easier way to send data this way is as follows:

    1. AT "Explorer" right-click the desired object.
    2. Further - "Send"“Bluetooth device”.

  • Specify the device and the target file in the dialog box.
  • The disadvantage of this method is that Bluetooth does not allow transferring folders. The solution may be to place all the necessary documents in one archive.
  • Method 6: External Storage

One of the easiest and most popular ways to transfer files between computers is to use external drives. For this, flash drives, DVDs and portable hard drives are most often used.

Data is transferred to flash drives and external hard drives in a standard way using "Explorer" or third-party file managers. DVDs require special procedures and software to burn. After the operation is completed, the medium is transferred to another user.

You should dwell on the features of file systems when using flash drives.

The maximum size of a single file in the FAT32 system is approximately 4 GB. NTFS theoretically has no limits. This means that for the transfer of sufficiently large single data (for example, distributions of modern games), you must specify the appropriate flash drive markup. Information on the current drive formatting options can be obtained by clicking on the context menu. "Properties" in the window "My computer".

To use NTFS on flash drives:

In the window "My computer" right-click on the flash drive and select "Format…".

Next, you need to specify the desired file system (in our case, it is NTFS) and click "To begin".

    Method 7: "Home Group"

Home Group called a set of computers running Windows that provide resources for sharing.

In the search bar we type Home group.

Next click on the button Create Home Group.

In the next info window, just click "Further".

We mark (or leave as is) those elements that will be available to participants "Home group", and click "Further".

We are waiting for the end of the process of obtaining permits.

The next window displays the password for accessing shared resources. It can be printed.

  • Push Done.
  • We launch "Conductor" and click on the shortcut below Home group.

To provide access to certain resources on the local PC, right-click on it and select any of the options. You can open or close access to any item from the selected folders for "Home group".

There are many different ways to transfer files from computer to computer. Some of them require access to the Internet, for example, copying files using a torrent client. The main advantage of such methods is the ability to transfer data over unlimited distances. On the contrary, when using external media, as a rule, file transfer occurs by transferring the device from hand to hand. The most popular of these methods is the use of flash drives. Such media are cheap, compact and mechanically stable. Sharing for computers on a network is most often used if multiple file sharing is required.
