Moreover, many users are limited to uninstalling only the program itself, and additional components that are often associated with an error are left on the computer. Of course, one cannot do this.

You must remove iTunes components in the following strict order:

  • Apple Software Update.

  • Support for Apple programs (64-bit).

The removal itself is performed in the program installation and removal menu in the computer control panel.

Check if everything is deleted

After removing all the components of iTunes, you need to make sure that all files of the old version of the utility have been deleted from the computer. Although this check is not required, it is recommended that you do it. Only in this case, you will exclude any possibility of an error when installing the new version of iTunes.

  • Check the Program Files folder. If it still contains folders iTunes, Bonjour and iPoddelete them.
  • Check the Program Files Common Files Apple folder. If it still contains folders Mobile device support, Apple application support and Corefpdelete them.

If you have a 32-bit version of Windows installed on your computer, instead of the Program Files folder, the directories of the old version of iTunes must be searched in the folder Program Files (x86).

Restart your computer and install the latest version of iTunes

After permanently uninstalling iTunes, restart your computer. Then download the latest version of iTunes from the official Apple website and install it on your PC. The installation process does not differ in complexity - you just need to follow the instructions of the installation file.

Why remove iTunes: common reasons

ITunes is uninstalled for the following reasons:

The program is no longer needed. Alternative software for data transfer is much easier to use, because it allows you to export files from a computer without synchronization. In addition, such programs are not inferior to iTunes in terms of functionality.

An early version of iTunes is required. Difficulties in mastering the new version is the main argument for returning to the previous one.

If iTunes installed on your PC crashes regularly, do not make a hasty decision to uninstall the program. Generally, updating iTunes to the latest version solves problems.

What you need to completely remove iTunes from your computer

The complete removal of iTunes implies that all components that were installed simultaneously with the program will also be in the "Trash". These components include:

Apple Software Update - responsible for updating Apple programs.

Apple Mobile Device Support - allows you to synchronize Apple gadgets with iTunes.

Bonjour - a module for the automatic search for software services, services, network devices.

Apple Application Support - contains detailed instructions that a computer must follow in order to perform a function. In some versions of the OS, Aityuns creates two similar components at once: for 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Removing components separately from iTunes or in random order is not recommended. Also, do not reboot your PC before completely removing iTunes components.

Step-by-step instructions for uninstalling a program on Windows

Step 1. Quit iTunes related processes. To do this, use the task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete). Manually you need to stop the following processes:

AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe is the process responsible for the correct interaction of iTunes with Apple devices.

AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is a process that allows iTunes to recognize Apple gadgets.

ItunesHelper.exe is the process responsible for connecting Apple gadgets with iTunes.

Before uninstalling iTunes, you must close all processes associated with it.

Even if iTunes is not open, the listed processes are active in the background.

A complete list of iTunes processes in Windows is available on the official Apple portal: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201999.

Step 2 Remove iTunes itself and its components. You need to get to the “Control Panel”: on the seventh Windows it is in the “Start” menu, on Windows 8 it is appropriate to use a search engine (the request is “Control Panel”). In the "Control Panel" you should go to the "Programs and Features" - subsection "Uninstall a program."

Delete iTunes through the "Control Panel"

In the list of programs, find iTunes, right-click and select "Delete", then wait until the uninstallation process is complete (Windows will not allow you to erase two programs at the same time). Also erase the remaining components in the exact order in which they were presented above.

In the "Programs" section, you can sort the components by publisher

In order not to waste time searching through the entire list, it is recommended to arrange the programs by publisher. All iTunes components share a publisher - Apple Inc.

Media purchased from the iTunes Store are located in the “Music” library on drive C in the “iTunes” folder. Send this folder to the Trash if you want to get rid of all traces of iTunes.

Finally, go over drive C and delete the folders from the following list (if you find):

C: Program Files Common FilesApple ,

Step 3 Clean the registry from iTunes entries. This procedure is unfamiliar to many Windows users, so we will pay special attention to it.

Click "Start", in the field "Find programs and files" enter regedit (on Windows 8 use the search engine).

On Windows 8, you can get into the registry through a search engine

Run the regedit.exe program.

Open the "Search" menu with Ctrl + F, in the "Search" field, type iTunes.

ITunes entries should be searched through the search engine (Ctrl + F)

If, at the end of the procedure, entries appear in the search results, right-click on each of them and select “Delete”.

If a registry search returns such entries, delete them.

To quickly clean the registry, you can use special software - uninstallers. The most famous uninstallers are CСleaner (free program) and Uninstall Tool (paid).

When all three steps are completed, restart your computer - after that you can be sure that iTunes has disappeared without a trace.

How to remove iTunes from Mac OS

On computers with OS X, iTunes is a preinstalled program - removing it will not be as easy as with Windows. If the user tries to drag the program file into the "Trash", he will see such an unfriendly message:

It is impossible to delete iTunes by directly moving to the "Trash"

In fact, iTunes is not so necessary Mac, as Apple developers. If the user selects a similar program for playing media files, iTunes will not need him at all.

You can get rid of iTunes on Mac like this:

  1. Go to the "Applications" folder and find iTunes.
  2. Right-click on the icon and go to "Properties".
  3. Click on the lock icon and enter the administrator password.
  4. In the "Sharing and Permissions" section, check "Read and Write."

In the section "Sharing ..." you need to set "Read and write"

Now you can get rid of the utility in the same way as owners of a PC with Windows. Close the Properties menu, send the application to the trash and empty the Trash.

After removal in this way, all musical compositions and libraries with multimedia files will remain in place.

There is another way to remove iTunes from Mac, but it suits more sophisticated PC users:

Launch “Terminal” through Finder (the path “Transition” - “Utilities” - Terminal ”).

Find “Terminal” on Mac through Finder

iTunes will be deleted past the Recycle Bin.

Using uninstallers to remove iTunes is pointless. For example, the Clean My Mac utility does not recognize this program at all.

Windows Installer Package Error

The full wording of the error is: “Windows Installer Package Error. Unable to start the program required to complete the installation. Contact support or the package provider. ”.

This error occurs if iTunes was not installed correctly.

How to fix such a mistake is described on the official Apple information portal. You need to go to the "Control Panel", restore the iTunes program and only then try again to remove it.

Error 2330

A similar message appears if iTunes was not fully downloaded, or if the program registry is damaged. The cause may also be a virus that corrupted Windows related files.

If this error occurs, you should check the disk through the built-in utility Chkdsk (Check Disk - check disk). Then you need to restart your PC and try installing iTunes on top of your existing data transfer program.

Need iTunes.msi package

If during uninstallation an error appears with the text “The desired file is located on a network resource that is currently unavailable. Click OK to try again, or specify a different path to the folder containing the iTunes.msi installation package, you should use one of the third-party utilities to “clean” the disk (for example, IObit Uninstaller) or delete the iTunes folder from the root folder. Also, a similar problem can be solved by reinstalling Windows.

When uninstalling iTunes, it is also important to erase the components of this program from the PC, moreover, in a strictly established sequence. Despite the need to clean the registry (an operation unfamiliar to many users), the process of uninstalling iTunes is easily handled by both owners of Windows computers and Mac owners.
